Written on 5:56 AM by Rahul Mathur

Spider-Man is single again!!!!

Comic book bosses have sparked controversy by wiping out the web slinger’s long time marriage to sweetheart Mary Jane Watson.

Spidey is back as a bachelor in his 20s living at home with his elderly aunt in the latest Spider-Man comic Called Spiderman's Brand New Day, released this week.

Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson tied the knot back in 1987. But in the latest comic evil character Mephisto offers to save the life of Parker’s aunt if he and Mary Jane turn their back on their romance.

The move has sparked outrage among Spider-Man’s die-hard fans. “So every single issue that I have ever read never happened? Thanks a lot guys,” reader ‘jdniul97 wrote on a Marvel.com message board.

“I really appreciate having a company that I’ve given a lot of money over the years crap all over me.”
Another reader, ‘jeffgamer’, posted: “The Spider-Man I’ve loved and read about 34 years is dead now.”

Stan Lee, who created Spider-Man, isn't involved in the current story but called it "a very creative idea."

"It should stimulate a lot of interest in the characters and the books, and I'm eager to see what happens next," he said.

The 85-year-old comic book legend said it's a challenge to come up with new and interesting dilemmas for beloved characters that have been around for decades.

"You have to introduce new elements to spark interest, to keep it alive. That's the reason we decided years ago to have Peter and MJ get married in the first place," said Lee, who married the couple in a mock ceremony at New York's Shea Stadium in 1987.

"Amazing that they're not even middle-aged yet," he quipped.

Marvel Comics said that they were was no story left after Peter's marriage so they decided to change the whole story again and Marvel also revealed that they had been Regretting this decesion since 1987 .Weird...

The Next Big Things From Google

Written on 1:00 AM by Rahul Mathur

Google Knol

Knol is a project planned by Google for user-generated articles on topics ranging from "scientific concepts, to medical information, from geographical and historical, to entertainment, from product information, to how-to-fix-it instructions." It was announced on December 13, 2007. Knol pages are "meant to be the first thing someone who searches for this topic for the first time will want to read", according to Udi Manber, a Vice President of Engineering at Google. The term knol, coined by Google to mean a "unit of knowledge", refers to both the project and an article in the project. The site has been seen by many as Google's attempt to compete with Wikipedia.

The site is currently in private beta, and requests to create "knols" are by invitation only.

Format

Each knol article will be written by a single author, and other users can edit it only with permission from the author. Readers may rate or comment on the articles. There can also be multiple articles for the same topic, each written by a different author. Google "[believes] that knowing who wrote what will significantly help users make better use of web content." Manber said that Google hopes "knols will include the opinions and points of view of the authors who will put their reputation on the line" and that the authors will be able to decide whether advertisements will appear on their knols, and that if there are ads, a "substantial revenue share from the proceeds of those ads" will be given to authors. While it is not yet known if authors are allowed to run ads from companies other than Google, according to Sullivan, Manber said it is a possibility. Manber also writes that "Google will not serve as an editor in any way, and will not bless any content. All editorial responsibilities and control will rest with the authors."

Google Blackle

Blackle is a Google search engine developed by Heap Media Australia

The principle behind Blackle is based on the fact that the display of different colours consumes different amounts of energy on computer monitors. The creators of Blackle cite a 2002 study from Roberson, who tested a variety of CRT and LCD monitors and found that an all black screen consumed less energy than an all white screen on all of them.

The creators of Blackle state that the idea behind the site came from a blog, which estimated that a black Google would save 750 megawatt-hours a year. On the Blackle homepage, the creators of Blackle provide a count of the number of watt-hours that they claim the users of Blackle have collectively saved.

Functions

Because it is not owned by Google Inc., the Blackle site lacks many of the features of conventional Google, including the 'Cached' and 'Similar Pages' options, and it does not have as many of the corresponding links that can be found on the Google homepage. These links include items such as preferences, advanced search, language tools, images, groups, news and scholar. The iGoogle feature is also lacking in Blackle.

Blackle is a Google Custom Search partner, which allows for the customization of the returned search results. As such, a search in Blackle does not necessarily return the same results as a Google search.

Windows 7 : The Successor of Windows Vista ?

Written on 4:53 AM by Rahul Mathur

Windows 7 (formerly codenamed Blackcomb, then Vienna) is a future version of Microsoft Windows. It is expected to be the successor to Windows Vista. Microsoft has confirmed that the planned development time frame is at least three years, putting the release date around 2010. On July 20, 2007, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 7 is "the internal name for the next version of the Windows Client OS".
Microsoft has refrained from discussing the details about Windows 7 publicly as they focus on the release and marketing of Windows Vista, though some early details of various core operating system features have emerged.

Features
Microsoft is maintaining a policy of silence concerning plans and aspirations for Windows 7. As a result, very little is known about the feature set. However, from interviews and speeches of company executives certain features have been known.[

MinWin
A minimalistic variation of the Windows kernel, known as MinWin, is being developed for use in Windows 7. The MinWin development efforts are aimed towards componentizing the Windows kernel and reducing the dependencies with a view to carving out the minimal set of components that is required to build a self-contained kernel as well as reducing the disk footprint and memory usage.[MinWin takes up about 25 MB on disk and has a working set (memory usage) of 40 MB. It lacks a graphical user interface and is interfaced using a full-screen command line interface. It includes the I/O and networking subsystems.MinWin was first demonstrated on October 13, 2007 by Eric Traut. The demo system included an OS image, made up of about 100 files, on which a basic HTTP server was running.Incidentally, the name MinWin was also used earlier to refer to what is currently known as Server Core in Windows Server 2008.However, the two are quite different. While both efforts are to consolidate and componentize the core of Windows, with server core, the functionality of the OS is constrained according to server roles, and unneeded components (which will never be used as the role isn't supported) are removed from the binary image. However, the dependencies still exist in code, and the code cannot compile without the components. In contrast, with MinWin, the dependencies are consolidated into MinWin and what is not needed is removed at the code level itself. As a result, the code compiles even without any extraneous components and builds a stripped-down self-contained OS kernel image.
Touch features
On December 11, 2007, Hilton Locke, who worked on the Tablet PC team at Microsoft reported that Windows 7 will have new touch features.
“I will say that if you are impressed by the "touch features" in the iPhone, you'll be blown away by what's coming in Windows 7. Now if only we could convince more OEMs that Windows Touch Technology is going to drive their sales.
